MIL-DTL-26482 Series II Crimp

Overview

MIL-DTL-26482 connectors offer high density contact arrangements in a miniature circular metal shell. They use a quick disconnect bayonet coupling for rapid positive mating and are environmentally sealed. Mil-DTL-26482 Series I are inter-mateable, inter-mountable and interchangeable with MIL-DTL-26482 Series 2. This particular series is the most recent version of the MIL-DTL-26482 family and some of the specifications are better than series I. The rear of the connectors in Series II has been re-designed to accept a variety of MIL-C-85049 backshells which need to be ordered separately.

Features

Rugged Shell
Aluminium-alloy shell and hardware create a rugged connector with minimal weight. These connectors have been extensively used in commercial, military and aerospace environments. Standard shells accept all MIL-DTL-26482 accessories.

Gold-Plated Crimp Snap-In Contacts
Closed-entry socket contacts eliminate damage from abuse by test probes and help to correct any misaligned pins during engagement. A metal contact retaining clip/sleeve is embedded into the body of the connector to give secure contact retention. Contact insertion is accomplished from the rear of the connector. When the contact is fully inserted, the clip tines snap securely behind the contact shoulder. Contact extraction is accomplished with a front-inserted extraction tool. Pushing the tool plunger pushes the contact out through the rear of the connector.

Good Current and Voltage Capabilities
Up to 22 Amps with wire gauges from size 24 up to size 16AWG wire. Some are rated at 1500 V AC and others at 2300 V AC (at sea level).

Environmentally Sealed on Four Levels
A complete environmental seal is achieved via a number of individual seals a various points. They use separate individual wire sealing grommet on the rear, through which each wire is fed. The rear grommet is compressed by the back shell to achieve a seal there. A “J” type gland sealing back shell is also available as an option to give a higher level of protection (recommended for high pressure jets of water).

Wide Temperature Range
These connectors will operate in temperatures from -55° to + 125°C under the harshest possible conditions.

Accept Standard M85049 Backshells
Backshells are sold separately for this series. There is a wide variety of backshell types available in the MIL-C-M85049 range. These include simple cheap strain relief’s, heat-shrink boot adapters, gland seals and EMI/RFI backshells.

Choice of Finishes
These connectors are available in olive drab over cadmium, nickel or black-anodised finishes.
